Kathleen Schmidt is a 
lyric mezzo-soprano specializing 
in Baroque opera and oratorio, Renaissance polyphony, medieval chant, and 19th-century art song.  She serves as Artistic Director for the Denver Early Music Consort, and is an accomplished performer of sacred and choral music. She has directed choirs and led educational programs to increase the impact of early (pre-Classical) music as a 
vibrant, living genre.

ENSEMBLE SOLOIST: Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado, performing early Baroque motets and villancicos from Spain, Bolivia, Peru, and other Central and South American countries. December 2016: Denver, Colorado.

ENSEMBLE SOLOIST: Saint Martin's Chamber Choir, performing Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Serenade to Music" and other works (Charles Wood, Roger Quilter) with texts by William Shakespeare. November 2016: Denver, Colorado.

SOLOIST AND LEADER: Denver Early Music Consort, performing the complete First Booke of Lute Songs and Ayres by John Dowland with viols, lute, and vocal soloists.  September 2016: Denver, Colorado.

FEATURED SOLOIST: Sounds of Lyons Music Festival's "Beyond Baroque" program, performing solo alto works by Heinrich Schuetz, Henry Purcell, John Dowland, Biagio Marini, and others.  August 2016: Lyons, Colorado.

CONDUCTOR: Denver Early Music Consort, performing Missa Pro Defunctis for double choir and continuo by Mateo Romero, and other Spanish Renaissance-era works. April 2016: Denver, Colorado.

ALTO SOLOIST: Saint Martin's Chamber Choir, performing the Mozart Requiem arranged for four-hand piano by Carl Czerny.  November 2015: Denver, Colorado.

FEATURED PERFORMER: Past, Present, and Future: Women in Classical Music, a program of all-female composers. Performed self-transcribed chant selections by Hildegard of Bingen with hurdy-gurdy. January and February 2015: Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder, Colorado, and at Dazzle Jazz Club in Denver, Colorado.

PREMIERED ROLE: Peabody Opera Etudes, one-act untitled opera in three scenes written by composer Stephen Edwards, scored for two mezzo-sopranos and piano, detailing the life and diagnosis of  the infamous "Typhoid" Mary Mallon.  Performed the role of Dr. George Soper, the discoverer of Mary Mallon's condition. April 2014: Baltimore, Maryland.

CHORISTER: 
Washington National Cathedral, Washington, D.C.: "The Spirit in Flight", a concert offered as part of a weeklong series of programs entitled Seeing Deeper; January 15, 2014.  Performed Spem in Alium, a forty-part motet by Thomas Tallis, as Soprano II in Choir V.  Conductor: Canon Michael McCarthy, Director of Music, Washington National Cathedral.

WORKSHOP ARTIST: Peabody Opera Workshop Production of Claudio Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea, Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. October 2013: Baltimore, Maryland.  Role: Nutrice.

SCENE ARTIST: Peabody Opera Production of Opera Lollapalooza, Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. November 2012: Baltimore, Maryland.  Performed as Medoro in a scene from the opera Orlando by George Frederic Handel.
